Rosh Hashana Psalm 47 Print E-mail

Rosh HashanaRepeated 7 Times corresponding to the 7 Heavens; 7 Sefirot - The Seven Heavens: Have in mind when reciting this Psalm:

1. Vilon (Curtain): It is in this lowest heaven where God renews creation each day.

“It is He Who sits on the circumference of the earth, with its inhabitants like grasshoppers; Who spreads the heavens like a thin curtain and stretches them like a tent to dwell in.”

2. Rakia (Firmament): This is the home of the sun, moon, stars and constellations.

“And the Lord set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth.”

3. Shechakim (Sky): This is where God prepares the Manna that will be used to feed the righteous in Gan Eden.

“He had already commanded the skies (Shechakim) above, and opened the doors of heaven, and rained upon them manna to eat, and gave them heavenly grain.”

4. Zevul (Habitation): This is the home of the heavenly Jerusalem. There is a Beit Hamikdash where Michael offers a Korban every day.

The Beit Hamikdash is called Zevul as it is written; “I have built a house of habitation (Zevul) for you, the foundation of Your dwelling forever.”

It is one of the heavens, as it is written; “Look down from heaven and see, from Your abode (Zevul) of holiness and splendor! Where are Your zealousness and Your might? Your inner yearning and Your mercy have been held back from me.”

5. Meon (Abode): Sets of Angels sing the praises of God at night but are silent during the day so as not to interfere with the prayers of the Jews. As it is written; “In the day God will command His Chesed, even by night His resting place is with me; a prayer to the Lord of my life!” We also learn from this verse that whoever studies Torah at night, God will wrap him in a string of Chesed during the day. Whoever works in Torah in this world, God will wrap him in a string of Chesed in the World to Come.

Thiis is the place to access the secrets of the World to Come.

We know this is a heaven because it is written, “Gaze down from Your holy abode (Meon), from the heavens, and bless Your people Israel, and the ground that You gave us, as You swore to our forefathers, a land flowing with milk and honey.”

6. Mechon (Foundation): This is where God keep storehouses of snow and hail. This is the place where God stores suffering and punishment for this world.

“May You hear from heaven, the foundation (Mechon) of Your abode, and forgive and act, and recompense that man according to his ways as You know his heart, for You alone know the hearts of all people.”

7. Aravot (Highest Heavens) : This is the home of Tzedek and Mishpat. This is where God keeps treasures of life, peace and blessing. This is the home of the souls of the righteous and all the souls that will be placed on earth. This is where God stores the dew that He will use to resurrect the dead. This is the home of the highest angels; Chayos, Ofanim, Seraphim and Malachei Hashareit. This is the place of the Divine Throne.

“Sing to the Lord, make music to His name; extol He Who rides upon the highest heavens (Aravot), with His name Yah and exult before Him.”
