Tehillim Tools: Psalm 109:2-4: All My Words Are Prayer Print E-mail

Tehillim“For the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful have opened against me, they have spoken to me the language of falsehood. And with words of hatred they have encircled me, and attacked me without cause. In return for my love they accuse me, but I was prayer (Psalms 109:2–4).” My entire essence, my every word is only prayer, and by this all the speech of others, “the mouth of the wicked in the mouth of the deceitful,” “the language of falsehood,” the “words of hatred,” are strange to me, because I use my words only as prayer. (Ohr ha-Meir, Pinchas)

These verses are teaching us that in order to protect ourselves from the destructive words of others, all we have to do is learn how to use our speech as a form of prayer.

How can I use a casual conversation as a form of prayer? When I am aware that every word I speak is a reflection of my relationship with God, all my words, every single one, become words of prayer, it is only then that we can say, “I am prayer.”
